Madhuri Dixit is a native of Mumbai, India. She was born Madhuri Shankar Dixit to Shankar and Snehlata Dixit, of a Marathi Brahmin family.

Mrunalinni Dayal was the producer of Kagaar had husband Amitabh Dayal portray encounter specialist Daya Naik in the film. An excited Mrunalinni said, “It’s an honour and a privilege for a first time director of a Hindi film to have got an international platform to showcase her talent.”

Talking about Dhuaaan, Mrunalinni said, “It is about a couple who despite of clash in their ideologies genuinely love each other. And continue to support each other’s dreams and hopes. But what happens when the dreams and wishes are fulfilled? Do they continue to be the same towards each other? Or their attitude changes causing irreconcilable differences and clashes?”

Mrunalinni added, “The story is based on an incident that had transpired in middle class woman’s life in 1989. How her vulnerability gave way to being adamant and firm. It is an extraordinary happening to a woman leading an ordinary life and that is what makes it
interesting.”

“Actually, I would love to cast either Sridevi or Madhuri Dixit for the role, but I wish they were younger. They don’t suit the role with their age now,” Sajid told IANS over phone from Mumbai. The multi-starrer romantic comedy “Housefull” is Sajid’s second film after his successful directorial debut “Heyy Babyy”.

He has finalised most of the actors except one. The stars he’s roped in include Deepika Padukone, Jiah Khan, Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani. Sajid is yet to zero in on an actress to play the third female lead. And he needs someone with good comic timing.

“I still haven’t been able to choose anyone. Whoever she will be will have to be extremely gifted. I want a quality actor whose comedy timing is great. Maybe I cast a new girl only. I’m not too sure,” he said.

At the moment, Sajid is basking in the success of his celebrity talk show “Sajid’s Superstars” that airs every Saturday on entertainment channel Colors.

He says the biggest surprise on the show is yet to come. “Akshay Kumar’s episode is the most superb episode of my show. It is yet to air and has a huge surprise.” Sajid, who digs out the deepest secrets of stars with a pinch of humour on his show, is quite content with the response to the programme.

“I was very confident that the show would do well. It has substance in it and a lot of entertainment value. You get to enjoy Bollywood stars as people. They talk on TV like never before. And I don’t get to know of the success of the show as much from the audience. It is when actors call me up and say we want to be on your show that I know the show is a hit,” he said.

However, the actor-director Sajid refused to divulge the names of actors who wanted to be seen on “Sajid’s Superstars”. Sajid’s recipe to make the show a hit is to have “no script at all”. “I don’t do much research on the actors except for pre-selecting the video clipping that I want to show and that’s all,” he concluded.

His sister Farah, who directed “Main Hoon Na” and “Om Shanti Om”, had choreographed two songs in “Heyy Babyy”, but Sajid says they will never get together to direct a film. “I don’t think Farah and I will make a film together. She is a director in her own right. But, yes, she did two songs for me in ‘Heyy Babyy’ and I hope she continues doing so,” he said.

“It is not really a financially profitable business,” said one organiser. “It basically boils down to being associated with glamour.”

However, the Big B’s Unforgettable show here Sunday raked in over a million dollars in ticket sales. Thousands thronged to see the superstar perform along with his son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai.

A promoter said while putting up the show cost about $1 million, with the stars getting paid about $700,000, they were able to cover the expenses since over 11,000 people, some from as far away as Florida and Ohio, flocked to see the Bollywood legend.

Amitabh got a thunderous ovation when he made his entry and the entire audience rose to its feet every time he performed, staying on its feet on one occasion for more than 30 minutes as Bachchan danced to his songs and delivered dialogues from films like “Deewar”, “Agneepath” and “Silsila”.

The show also featured Preity Zinta, Ritesh Deshmukh and music directors Vishal and Shekhar, who were all relegated to the sidelines. Jaya Bachchan appeared on the stage to make a plea for a campaign against global warming.

The success of the show took even regular Bollywood concert promoters in the city by surprise. A combination of the Big B’s star power and the audience’s nostalgia appeared to have brought in the crowds.

The morning after the show, at a meeting with journalists Monday, Amitabh said the audience’s enthusiasm gave the stars the energy to perform.

“There were two unforgettable moments for me on this tour,” he said, “One, the audience at all our performances was incredible and second the press (in the US) has been very kind and generous.”

This, he said, was in contrast to the “habitually negative press” he received in India. Several newspapers in the US, including the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune, featured prominent articles on him.

At the press conference, he was humility personified, apologising for being late, and patiently getting photographed with everyone who wanted to. He also dismissed the show promoter’s attempt at enforced deference. The promoter had insisted that the reporters ask only ‘pertinent’ questions, stand up while asking them, and address him as “Mr Bachchan”.

Asked if he would ever visit Pakistan, Bachchan said he had accompanied his mother to visit his grandfather in Pakistan when he was two years old.

He said he was happy to meet two local Pakistani journalists, originally from Lyallpur, the city where his mother grew up. He also recited a poem by his father on Hindu-Muslim unity.

“Art and culture does not divide. It promotes unity rather than diversity,” he said.

She became an overnight star with her performance as Mohini in “Tezaab”. People instantly used to associate her with the name and the popular song “Ek, do, teen”.

“I was mobbed for the first time after my movie ‘Tezaab’. I was at the Mumbai airport when few youngsters were whispering amongst themselves and I caught the word Mohini. One of them asked, ‘you are Mohini from the film ‘Tezaab’, right?’ I was very excited when I heard that,” she maintained.

Madhuri’s first ever world tour was with Anil Kapoor in 1991 after “Tezaab” and “Ram Lakhan”. Both were huge hits.

The actress has given great performances in films like “Khalnayak”, “Tezaab”, “Dil”, “Dil Toh Paagal Hai”, “Devdas” and more recently “Aaja Nachle” and her talent in the traditional dance form is visible through the graceful moves and effortless expressions that she gives in her dance sequences in the films.

She recalled how Hiralal, who choreographed the dance sequences of “Guide”, worked hard on her and how she tried her best to come up to his expectations. The film was released in 1965.

“Shooting for ‘Guide’ was one of my best experiences because the movie itself was close to reality,” she remarked.

The veteran actress also said that her role in “Guide” was completely different from what she played in “Mujhe Jeene Do” (1963) and “Kohra” (1964), which were released before that.

In “Guide”, she played a woman who leaves her oppressive husband and finds freedom in the company of a guide who helps her fulfil her artistic ambitions.

The veteran actress, who was seen in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s hit film “Rang De Basanti”, was presented the Taj Enlighten Tareef Award by the tea brand Brooke Bond Taj Mahal.

Madhuri Dixit performance was truly mind-blowing and the highlight of the evening. The graceful moves and her performance on her popular numbers right from Ek Do Teen to Aaja Nachle re-affirmed her dancing prowess. Crowds cheered wildly when Madhuri Dixit took the stage with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. They performed “Dola Re,” the song from the movie “Devdas,” dancing side by side in some of the most graceful traditional Indian-style moves.

“Our dance form is an amalgamation of everything. That’s what has existed in our cinema the whole time. The audience is a lot more international — the music is so universally embraced”, said Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Abhishek Bachchan made a surprise entrance through the crowd, sporting sunglasses and a bejewelled jacket as he manoeuvred through the screaming fans. He also performed romantic numbers with his wife onstage as teen girls in the audience howled with glee.

“The first thing that hits you is just the euphoria,” said Abhishek Bachchan, of his first world tour. “It’s an outpouring of love from the audience — it really explodes when actors come on stage.”

The live show featuring stars of Bollywood cinema, presented Saturday night for 12,000 screaming fans at the L.A. Sports Arena was a 3 1/2 -hour kaleidoscopic festival. Miles and miles of fan queues were seen outside the LA Sports Arena who eagerly waited to be a part of the ‘Unforgettable’ experience. Stunning, power-packed performance by the stars left the audiences mesmerized, longing for more.

Titled The Unforgettable, the tour kicks off from Toronto July 18 and will have Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Riteish Deshmukh and Preity Zinta as its permanent members.

“We are also going to have a number of big stars like Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar and Madhuri Dixit joining us. In the first leg of the tour (July-August), we will be in North America and Europe,” says Abhishek.

“Hopefully, it will be very entertaining and we will try and ensure as much entertainment as possible like crowd interactions, dialogues and, of course, lot of dances,” he said of the format of the shows during the tour.

“We have decided on the performances and songs. The rehearsals have already started because we are about a month away from our departure,” the actor added.

“We have been rehearsing for the past three weeks and will continue for the rest of this month and in July as well. We have extensive schedule for rehearsals as there are no retakes on stage. But thankfully, the people who are going with us on the tour have been on stage earlier,” he said.

A couple of stars had backed out from the tour, but Abhishek said this hadn’t increased the pressure on the core group.

“Not at all! We are happy with the star cast we have and are very confident about the shows,” he maintained.

“This is mine and Riteish’s first world tour. But the basic attitude is to be very well prepared. And you have to work hard to be as professional as possible on the stage,” the actor said.
