Saira bano.jpgSaira Banu: Saira Banu was born into a Urdu-speaking family in India on August 23, 1944. Her mom’s name is Naseem Banu, and she is the granddaughter of a courtesan, Chamiyan Bai, also known as Shamshad Begum (not to be confused with the famous playback singer of the yesteryear Shamshad Begum). She spent much of her childhood in London and was able to debut in 1961 in a Bollywood movie ‘Junglee’ opposite Shammi Kapoor. (more…)

Dilip Kumar conferred with Phalke Ratna Award

Bollywood’s living legend Dilip Kumar was on Monday conferred the Phalke Ratna Award, instituted in memory of the ‘Father of Indian Cinema’ by the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy in Mumbai. Yusuf Khan (Dilip Kumar), who was selected for the honour for his devoted services to the film industry, received the award at a function marking the 138th birth anniversary of the poineering filmmaker.
