Mumbai, Thursday, April 23 2009: Madhurita Sarang Dance Music & Festival (MSDMF) 2009 witnessed tribute from eminent performers including National Award winner Padmashri Shobhana Chandrakumar, followed by a first ever classical performance by the Chak De India fame, Vidya Malvade, Ranjit Barot an artist of instinctive musicality gifted with absolute mastery of the instrument, well known Kathak dancer, Sandeep Mahavir and a performance by Manganyar group of Jaisalmer.

MSDMF 2009 awardees were the Kathak Queen Shrimati Sitara Devi and the Maestro of Sarangi, Ustad Sultan Khan Sahab. Also present at the occasion were Salim Sulaiman, the Chak De girls, Roopkumar Rathod, Sonali Rathod, Hariharan and Ismail Darbar. The concert was held at Ravindra Natya Mandir and the entry was only by invitation. The event was managed and executed by Molecule Communiccations (P) Ltd and was conceptualized by AMS Dance Company.

MSDMF is celebrated every year by Shri Sandeep Mahavir as a tribute to Shushri Madhurita Sarang his Mother and Guru. It is a rare occasion to have the all artists of Indian Classical Music in a form of Jugalbandi performing on a single stage. This is the 3rd year after having it successfully done since past 2 years in Mumbai and Delhi in which Highness Shri S. M. Krishnaji, Governor of Mumbai awarded Padmavibhushan Pandit Birju Maharajji and Chief Justice of India, Shri P. P.Neolekarji awarded Shrimati Uma Sharma.

About Shushri Madhurita Sarang
Shushri Madhurita Sarang, is the first unrivalled Kathak artist to have performed at the 2nd world percussion panorama along with the well-known singer Late Shobha Gurtu. She learned the great art from all the three schools of Kathak under the maestros like Late Pandit Sundar Prasadji, Late Lachu Maharaji, Late Pandit Chaube Maharaji and Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaji. Apart from Kathak, she was also trained in the rigours of Bharat Natyam. Nritya Darshan, a dance school established in 1969 in Mumbai was founded by Late Madhurita Sarang, this is now led by her disciple and an eminent Kathak dancer himself, Shri Sandeep Mahavir.

Vidya Malvade, Shawar Ali at the Baggit fashion show in Mumbai on 8th October 2008. Purple Passion”Baggits new ‘haute’ range of bags and accessories debuted this evening at Mumbai.

The gamine Vidya Malavade and the reliable Shahwar Ali, led a troupe of international models on the ramp and gave it panache. As Shahwar gave life to “Adam’s World”, Baggit also gently announced its foray into the world of male accessories.

Nina Lekhi, owner of Baggit, said “Purple, we predict is the colour of the season, therefore some of the lines have been launched in Purple and various shades of the colour, and there are more on the way! Nina further added, “Wool is the new material for our bags to compliment the Autumn Winter season, and the exclusive lines of woolen bags will hit the stores very soon.”

With festive season already started, comes the time to party. Clutches in different shapes and colours will hit the party floor in a big way this year. Vidya Malavade who is in the news these days for her film Kidnap, was so wowed by the Baggit collection, that she said, “After I walk the ramp with the Baggit collection, I want to walk away with all the Baggit bags.”

The design team at Baggit has also got creative with prints. Various techniques have been used to splash all muted and intense colours across the bags. Felt printing is used to highlight a couple of collections and then there are bags with multiple prints on them, to go with the various moods of a day! Although, the printed bags will hit the stores only with the onset of winters in the months of November and December.

The Baggit fashion show was just a glimpse into the exciting colours, shapes, designs and concepts that Baggit is going to unleash this season. As Nina Lekhi says it with a gleaming twinkle in her eyes, “there is much more in store from Baggit this season to make your winters more colourful’.

The girl is ready to anything for him, provided he takes her for another trip to the beach for yet another song (for the audience’s benefit!)  The girl has been with him for only 3 days and she realizes that it is her parents’ holiday home and she goes telling the kidnapper that he has kidnapped her in her own home. Wonder what is this all about? Well keep trying to figure that one out!

The mother of the girl is Vidya Mallavde (remember the captain of Chak De India!) and the grandmom is Reema Lagoo. The mother looks prettier than the daughter for one and it seems the bollywood has changed the age slots for actresses to pose as mom and grandmom!

The father is the meanwhile trying to locate the abductor and instructs his secretary to provide him with ‘mere dushmanon ka list banao’.  Then there is this wild goose chasing with the tycoon posing as policeman in a jail, and there as a fireman.

Despite all these series of running all over the place there is no sign of rescuing the girl.  The kidnapper conveys that he wants to collect crisp notes and there is an exchange of cryptic messages as ‘akkar bakkar bame bo’.  They seem meaningless till the end.

The film is actually about a young kid trying to take a revenge on a rich man who got him jailed for stealing a car.

The filmmaker says this movie would not have been made if Sanjay Dutt had turned down the offer. Now we really know who to blame for making us suffer this one.  But what is the point, it is going happen again down the line and we will get to suffer more in these series.. I shudder to think of a sequel for this one!
