Poetry comes alive in Anjalee & Arjun Kapoorâs Festive Collection 2010. The presentation transports you to the finest realm of fashion and design, which is a blend of the authentic Mughal era with sophisticated Victorian sensibility- apt for the modern bride.
A romantic fairy tale unfurls as the designer duo create art pieces in textiles. A new richness pervades all. The mood is modern, Almost cutting edge. Yet the soul belongs to the past. Archival mogul motifs. Victorian embellishment techniques of leafing and appliquĂ©s in tissue and silk create a very 3 â dimensional appeal. To capture the antiquated appeal, hand embroidery in burnished gold and silver compliments the precious stones and crystal. Rock emerald, ruby, turquoise, aquamarines are encrusted on the garments. Museum quality techniques create a contemporary heirloom and a chic silhouette and styling keeps the contemporary appeal alive.
Fitted forms flow with the fluid form of chiffon and crepe .Indian skirts hug the body as sensual bodices lend a sensual feminity. Drama meets restraint and fables flow along the quiet bank of reality. Translucence, shimmer and shine come together to create a contemporary classic. The silhouette is experimental.
A very oriental wrap technique emerges in some of the bridal gowns as sassy chiffon saris get worn with hipster belts. Textual rusching, felting, pleating and pin tucks give a very interesting form to the Indian kurta. Asymmetric hemlines and bold necklines lend a very western silhouette to the tunic as shalwars and palazzos in sheer chiffons add a sassy, sexy appeal.
The color palette exudes past restraint as nudes blend with pastels and bold colors peep through. Shades of rose, fuchsia, burgundy, and midnight blues interpreted with primary colors through a new layering technique as the designers mesh solid colored nets with metallic toned silks and chemoys.
Romancing the past in saris as well, Anjalee and Arjun give structure and form to this traditional drape technique. Fully embroidered saris get coupled with sexy blouses. It is yesterday once more in a very
sassy, retro, sixties interpretation of this ever alive Indian ensemble that compliments every woman.
The collection epitomizes bold yet beautiful, sensual but feminine, romantic yet practical. For Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor it is indeed a beautiful winter as they recreate romance through a truly eclectic collection.
