Bimal Roy’s Madhumati celebrates 50 years
‘Old is gold’, a much celebrated film of 1950’s Madhumati starring the two veteran actors Dilip Kumar and Vyjayantimala based on the similar theme will be celebrating its 50th year today. The masterpiece directed by late Bimal Roy screened today at Globus Theatre. Vyjayantimala feeling proud about the happening said that Bimalda brought out the childlike mirth of her character and also, the dancer in her in the limelight. She further added that she has always found black and white dramatic and the theme ‘reincarnation’ very universal.
Not very convinced with the thought of releasing Madhumati in colour like Mughal-E-Azam and Naya Daur, she said that she would never want Madhumati to go in colour because a classic looks best in black and white. Madhumati was one of the biggest successes of Bimal Roy with the music composed by Salil Choudhary.
