Sapna Raina Kachroo- a disciple of Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan is a wonderful mixture of humility, confidence, commitment and sanity. This Meerut University Graduate is not yet 35, her musical achievements and awards she has won prove that Sapna’s talents have been acknowledged and to some extent been rewarded. She presented an evening of Hindustani Classical in the capital city at Amaltas hall, Habitat World, India Habitat Centre. Sapna started her performance with Raag Marwah and continued with Amir Khusru’s ‘Mohe Apne Hi Rang Me Rang De’. Audiences appreciated her performance with big round of applause. She concluded her recital with Meera’s Bhajan ‘Mai To Girdhar Ke Rang Rati’
Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan made his presence on this auspicious occasion to bless his disciple. “Sapna has been most devoted disciple and has a charming voice I wish her every success in her lifeâ€, he said. He emphasized on the need to promote Indian classical music and said that “youngsters like, Sapna Kachroo has to take the initiative to do soâ€.
She has sung for serials on national network, performed at Triveni under the Shahitya Kala Parishad and has recorded songs in Urdu and Kashmiri at AIR Srinagar. She is a topper in M.Phill and PhD holder from Delhi University. Presently Sapna Raina Kachroo is a lecturer at Delhi University.
Sapna Kochroo is an approved artiste of AIR, she has compared programmes of music on AIR and judged performances of students of schools and colleges and won herself the annual DU students’ union award for excellence in Music. Sapna Raina Kachroo has shared the stage with renowned artists like Pandit Jasraj and Ustaad Sultan Khan. In an encounter with WE she spoke of her quest for an identity, her relationship with her Grand-bandha guru Ustaad Iqbal Ahmad Khan of the Delhi Gharana and what being a Kashmiri means.
