The textile and design capital of India can take pride in having a national fashion event of its own, with the launch of the Tata Indicom Fashion Weekend here in the city. Fourteen of the country’s brightest talents in Indian fashion are here to showcase and present their creativity to the fashionista’s of the city.
For the first time, Ahmedabad will witness the ‘hot of the runway’ collections from these exclusively hand picked 14 designers, which was showcased at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week and Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Weeks.
“I am confident that the glamour and style quotient will come of age and Ahmedabad with its textile and design history will shine again on the World’s fashion map. This truly exciting property of ‘Ahmedabad Fashion Weekend’ that we have created will be held twice a year, year on year†said Umang Hutheesing., the chief patron of the event.
Meeta Phulwani, city based fashion entrepreneur and the moving force in establishing the event, said, “It’s a great privilege to play the catalyst’s role in hosting the first ever Tata Indicom Ahmedabad Fashion Weekend. It’s a new beginning. And here I am presenting to the design world a new platform which I am sure will grow in the years to come. Ahmadavadis have always had a taste of good things in life, and today we launch another avenue for them to explore the best in fashion industry.â€
Speaking on the occasion, leading fashion consultant and impresario Ramesh Menon, who put together the designer ensemble for the event, emphasised the need to bring the designer fraternity and the growing domestic market closer with each other and “events like these are the ideal platform to further the cause. Fashion weekends would be an extension of the fashion weeks in Mumbai and Delhiâ€
“Fashion weeks in India celebrate 10 years of existence. Yet over the years, it has remained a Delhi Mumbai affaire with Indian fashion and its young design talent yet to proliferate into the high potential cities of India. From Chandigarh to Ahmedabad, Bangalore to Kolkatta, Nagpur to Coimbatore the true Indian market is awaiting in these cities. The idea behind the fashion weekend is two fold – one to expose the best of Indian fashion to the huge potential of the domestic market and on the other to showcase and educate consumers across the country that fashion is not the preserve of the eliteâ€, said Menon
Young talent in fashion have been shining at the fashion weeks and its time to present them to a larger audience. Designers who work with Indian textiles, crafts and weavers to create the fashion of the future.
Day one of the weekend will be exclusive “by invite†preview to the crème da le crème of the city over a fashion presentation featuring top models and professionals from the host city. It will be held this evening at Ame Gujarati, the hot new haute food spot in the city.
