AYAN AND PREETIKA SARKAR DEBUT AT LAKME FASHION WEEK
MUMBAI 23 OCTOBER 2008: Ayan and Preetika Sarkar’s debut collection for Spring/Summer 2009 titled “A Pristine Aliveness” was a creative mix of Spanish style with Indian abstract motifs, under their label Couturewala. The vibrant colours, intricate embroidery, some interesting cuts in soft georgettes, silk and cottons had the inspiration of candelabras of Barcelona, delicate leaves and shades of Kolkata for abstract prints and Chantilly lace that were turned into pretty feminine ensembles. There was a touch of nostalgia and an old world charm about the collection. Gold tights were teamed with multi patched silk tunics in muted shades with touches of embroidery and the saris were richly embroidered making the collection a perfect blend of fusion wear.
JASLEEN AND JENJUM SHOWED A LINE OF ELEGANT MEN’S AND WOMEN’S WEAR
It was The Freedom to be Free collection from the Koga label by Jasleen Kochhar and Jenjum Gadi which they called “Vagabondish”. The softy draped silhouettes for dresses in varying lengths were in pretty shades of pink, blue, orange, fuchsia, yellow and brown to create an interesting men’s and woman’s wear collection. Shading and tie-n-die along with pleating added to the beauty of the creations; while 3D embroidery was in motifs that ranged from blossoms to creepers and china roses. Tissue pin tuck kurtas of men, flowing green and navy chiffon gowns, red pleated minis in silk and a lovely fuchsia and orange maxi were the elegant looks for both the sexes. It was a good mix of garments with interesting texturing and cuts.
SAILEX CREATED A DRAPED WOMEN’S WEAR COLLECTION
Drapes and ombre shading came together for minis in the collection by Sailex. Using fabric braiding as one of main detailing, the designer added it as shoulder straps or on bodices and halters. The colour story was a pastel one which almost blended with the base ivory tones, as brown, peach, grey, purple flowed into the shading. Satin, chiffon and georgette were innovatively layered and draped for the Grecian inspired minis, Capris, harem pants and cowled minis and trousers were graceful creations. There was a lot of back interest with scooped necklines and the finale asymmetric pink shaded gown that doubled up as a cape from the hemline was ultra glamorous. It was indeed a very scintillating stylish feminine line.
