TAHERA: THE COLLECTION, FALL 2008
Ultra romantic, flowing, sculptural.
A line of elaborate, handcrafted vintage cocktail dresses that look and feel ‘precious’, for the non-conformist, experimental woman. Fabulously decadent with modern interpretations and whimsical twists, the dresses are designed to turn heads whenever a woman walks into the room.

With a passion for the art of feminine and Grecian inspired draping, the new collection is a variation of beautiful shapes from tulip to bubble to pleats in luxurious silks, satins and chiffons to create tunics, shift dresses, toga-style mini dresses and maxis. Dresses go from sculptural to gently wrapped and draped party dresses resulting in beautiful and ultra-sophisticated pieces that reveal a meticulous attention to detail. The colour palette ranges from deep emerald greens, peacock and midnight blues to exquisite shades of grape, berry and fuschia. Grey and silver are used in interesting accents. Everything has a feel of richness and romance, interpreted with a slightly audacious twist.

Inspiration
French designer Madeleine Vionnet in the 1920s and 1930s. She devised methods of bias cross cutting using a miniature model. She made the halter neck and cowl neck popular. Using her technique, designers were able to produce magnificent gowns in satins, crepe-de-chines, silks and chiffons by cross cutting the fabric, creating a flare and fluidity of drapery that other methods could not achieve. Many of the gowns could be slipped on over the head and came alive on the human form. Some evening garments made women look like Grecian goddesses.
