NACHIKET BARVE’S COLLECTION MADE A FASHIONABLE IMPACT WITH TOXIC CONSTRASTS- While it was a collection of opposites not only in its unconventional title, “Toxin” which is far removed from fashion; in its colours, silhouettes, embellishments and structures the line was a great summer offering.
Nachiket Barve moved away from his forte, which is construction, for Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 and instead, married fluidity with rigidity, the long with the short and played with colours and graphic patterns.
There was an air of transparency in the layering of chiffon, georgette, crepe, shot silk, organza, Lurex and tabby for dresses, tunics, layered separates and finally a solitary trouser (which has never been attempted by Nachiket).
A riot of colours from black, white, red, green, turquoise, blue, navy to silver and metallic white, purple and green dazzled down the ramp in striking contrasts. Motifs like octopus tentacles, coral polyps, appliqué 3D folds, Shibori and resist dyeing added to the glamour of the creations.
The show opened with a mosaic appliqué Mexican peplum jacket in multi-coloured shades with a Shibori dyed cascade skirt with organza hem. Using the theme beautifully, the sea anemone dress with raised sequin straps, the flutter organza appliqué short strappy dress with sequin straps, lovely layered flared Shibori cascade back dress and the patched organza layered dress with colour blocked silk lining and double neck detailing were some of the eye catchers in a splendid collection.
It was a refreshing intricately crafted summer line from Nachiket Barve that will appeal to fashionistas for Spring/Summer 2010.
