Delhi’s IHC to host international film festival

The India Habitat Centre has announced the premiere edition of Habitat International Film Festival (HIFF), to begin here from March 24 with the screening of Asghar Farhadi’s Oscar winning film “The Salesman”.

The 10-day festival, which will conclude on April 2, aims to bring together carefully hand-picked world cinema which has witnessed critical acclaim across the globe.

“With the launch of this festival, we seek to fill the vacuum felt by film enthusiasts in the capital and provide them with tasteful movie choices. Through this free-for-all platform, we aim to promote the thought of global dialogue via the channel of movies,” Rakesh Kacker, Director, India Habitat Centre, said in a statement.

The festival will entail a free screening of over 50 films. HIFF will raise the curtain to India with movies from unconventional countries such as Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Hungary and Mongolia among many others.

“We are happy to have several embassies entrusting us with our unique initiative and are confident that Habitat International Film Festival will witness resounding success,” Kacker added.

Presenting every kind of genre, the event will entail themes of human interest, women empowerment, fashion, sports, music among others. Besides non-mainstream cinema, HIFF will also feature various documentaries.

There will be films like “Driving With Selvi”, “White Sun”, “A Heavy Heart”, “White Blessing” and “My Daughter Anne Frank”.
