After starting off on the right note at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival, Rajkummar Rao and Anjali Patel-starrer “Newton” has been selected in the world competition section of the 16th Annual Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

The film’s director Amit Masurkar is excited about it and is looking forward to showing it to the fest audience. The Tribeca Film Festival will take place from April 19 to April 30.

“Tribeca is one of the most exciting film festivals in the world. It has a fearless and independent voice. We are looking forward to showing ‘Newton’ to the cinema-loving New York audience,” Masurkar said in a statement.

“Newton” is Masurkar’s second film after “Sulemani Keeda” in 2014.

The film had its world premiere at Berlinale, and won the Art Cinema award for the Forum section there.

Now, the film will compete in the International Narrative Competition Section of the the 16th Annual Tribeca Film Festival.

“Newton”, a political black comedy, revolves around a clerk placed on election duty in a conflict-ridden area of Chhattisgarh.

The film is produced by Manish Mundra of Drishyam Films, company best known for bankrolling critically-acclaimed projects such as “Masaan”, “Ankhon Dekhi” and “Umrika”.

According to Tribeca’s official website, a total of 98 films will be screened at the fest this year across various categories.

“Extremely happy to share that ‘Newton’ is in the world competition section of Tribeca. Can’t wait to be there. Congrats team,” Rajkummar tweeted on Friday.

Mundra, Founder of Drishyam Films and producer of “Newton”, said: “After the warm audience and critical reception at Berlinale, we are very excited to take ‘Newton’ to such a renowned festival as Tribeca for its North American premiere.
