Restaurants woo foodies with tricolour treats on I-Day

There are more ways than one to fly the tricolour as a host of eateries are proving, offering myriad options in saffron, white and green, special schemes and even themed ambience for an Independence Day treat.

Bunker, an Armed Forces-themed cafĂ© and bar in the capital’s suburb Gurgaon, has drawn up a special menu for the occasion.

“The restaurant will certainly serve tri-coloured mocktails and food to uplift the mood for the occasion. We will (also) be offering 20 per cent off to our patrons and special 25 per cent off to armed forces personnel and their families,” Bunker Owner Aman Rathi told IANS.

The idea will be to celebrate patriotism.

Anuj Tyagi, Co-Founder of Koyla Kebab, a kebab cafĂ© in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash area, says they are “offering the different colours of India on a platter”.

“Our restaurant is themed around the modern way of cooking along the backdrop of images of Indian cooking techniques during the colonial era. Independence Day is close to our hearts and we are offering the different colours of India on a platter as part of our offer,” Tyagi told IANS.

The kebab cafe has also planned a pocket-friendly offer for their clients, who plan to visit on the occasion.

“We will be offering a vegetarian kebab platter at Rs 360 and a non-vegetarian kebab platter for Rs 460, which would consist of 10 pieces of kebabs and a roomali roti,” he added.

Some bakeries too have something in store for the special day.

L’OpĂ©ra, an authentic pastry and bakery house at Delhi-based Salon de ThĂ©, will be selling Tricolor Macarons.

Ripudaman Handa, winner of the third season of “MasterChef India”, recently opened the Macchiato Pizzeria Grill and Bar in Mumbai. He too is going to celebrate the Independence Day with special offers for customers.

“Independence Day is one of the most important days for us in India and we usually create a festive and celebratory atmosphere at our restaurants. For us, it’s our first Independence Day this year and what better way than to include our customers in our celebration by way of offering a flat 50 per cent discount,” Alok Tiwari, partner at Macchiato Pizzeria Grill and Bar, told IANS.

In Bengaluru, a vegetarian restaurant called 1947, is dedicated to freedom fighters and has its interiors decorated with their photographs.

“We have an ambience around freedom fighters like Netaji (Subhas Chandra Bose) and Mahatma Gandhi… We have a lot of pictures of them,” Abhay Kumar, Manager of 1947, told IANS.
