Movie review: Thenavattu (2008)
Ratings: *** Thenvattu has got all the ingredients required in a commercial flick. The movie is a thorough entertainer and would surely keep you away from your tensions while you view it.
The plot starts off when Kottai (Jeeva) comes from Madurai to Chennai to eke out his livelihood. He works as henchman to Kailasam (Ravi Kale), a dreaded gangster. Kailasam’s son, a womanizer, is behind Gayathri (Poonam Bajwa). Gayathri, Kottai’s ladylove, runs for cover. Eventually, Kottai takes on Kailasam to protect Gayathri. Whether he succeeds in his mission forms the crux of the story.
Jeeva at last have got a much required commercial hit. He has played his part well and portrayed his character with dignity and his character surely oozes energy. Jeeva is especially brilliant in stunt sequences especially towards the climax. He seems to have matured quite well to play a mass hero.
Debutant V V Kathir has rendered a movie that is one-dimensional with characters uttering racy dialogues. The actor has attempted to recreate the Vijay magic, with right instructions from the director.
After Seval, here too Pooja Bajwa succeeds in creating a magic with his brilliant performance. The diva looks cool and poised on screen. Ravi Kale impresses as a villain. Ganja Karuppu’s comedy is not hilarious but good to an extent.
Srikanth Deva’s music adds pep. The racy tunes coupled with peppy beats makes the spectators tap their foot. Director Kathir didn’t experiment much and took the familiar path of commercial entertainer following the footsteps of his guru mentor Perarasu .
‘Thenavattu’ is sure to make it big among the B and C centre audiences. It surely is going to be a treat for them watching this thorough entertainer flick.
