Bollywood is slowly emerging into an industry which not only makes commercial potboilers but also thoughtful cinema. And ‘332 Mumbai To India’ falls in the second category. The film, claim reports in the media, will make you think on various important matters which we otherwise brush aside.
‘332 Mumbai To India’ is based on the true story of the public display of enmity on the streets of Mumbai, when Mumbaikars beat to death several North Indian travelers waiting at the Kalyan railway station in an attempt to drive away UPites from their domain. The story begins with a young Marathi hijacking a bus which runs between the Andheri and Kurla regions of Mumbai. What follows is a series of incidents directly influenced by the Marathi boy’s act.
The film helps to address several questions arising out of the concept of communalism which is still rampant in India. In ‘332 Mumbai To India’, there is a young man who is a UPite but has spent his entire life in the city of Mumbai. On the other hand, there is a group of friends who comprise of Mumbaiites and Biharis. The non-Mumbaikers have nothing to do with the riot that took place at the Kalyan railway station on that fateful day because they do not support discrimination of communities.
But will their perception change after the incident of the bus hijacking? Will the hijacker be able to prove his point? These are questions which will be answered when you visit your nearest theater this month. ‘332 Mumbai To India’ plays in theaters from the 17th of December.
