Anusha Rizvi To Give Oscars A Miss

Published on

October 27, 2010 : Oscar Awards is one such event which no one from the entertainment industry would like to give a miss. So, when Anusha Rizvi, the director of Aamir Khan Productions’ film Peepli Live, announced her plan of not attending the event, everyone started smelling something fishy.

For a first time filmmaker like Anusha, it would have been a dream come true to attend the Oscar Award ceremony. It would have been a matter of pride for her to represent her film Peepli Live at the event. But the director has made her point clear saying that she would not lobby for the film.

Rizvi’s first film received much critical acclamation and commercial success but she is now not ready to answer anything about the film’s producer Aamir Khan. The director was quoted saying that the award is nothing more than just America’s national awards and she would not go to promote the film in USA.

Anusha has repeatedly expressed her discontentment about the promotional overdrive of Peepli Live. Recently, co-director Mahmood Farooqui, Anusha’s husband has also informed that they are stepping back from the promotions. But producer Aamir Khan has ignored it saying it to be the kind of pre-release attention.

The director was quoted saying that she would rather want 50 people to watch the film without all these promotional activities than gathering 200 people with the hype.

Aamir has been often accused of dominating the films he is part of. On the other hand, he is only Indian star, whose four films have been chosen to represent India for Oscar.

However, if the film is shortlisted as one of the top five foreign movies at the Academy, what will be Anusha’s reaction? Will she still stay away from the film?
