GHAJINI has gone through the sealing, and how. Even in it’s third week, it was running at 1000 cinemas which is an unheard of number. Moreover, it also managed to create the third week record by netting 14 crores more to it’s collections, hence falling by less than 50% when compared to the previous week.
Unbelievable. Mumbai and Delhi are still dealing in crores with 2 crores and 1.25 crores respectively. Of course with no other notable film in the running except for RAB NE BANA DI JODI, it was an open playground for GHAJINI but still, collections that now read as 105 crores are monumental to say the least.
It would be wrong to presume though that any other biggie in the town should start aiming for at least 100 crores in collections. That would be stupid considering you can’t have miracles happening time and again. Of course it would be great if another film manages to do that in quick time but let’s not bring our swords out for all big movies that release from here on.
On the other hand RAB NE BANA DI JODI is a Blockbuster as well. Sustaining itself excellently well in spite of GHAJINI going extra strong, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer fell by less than 40% and added 3 crores more to it’s total. Standing at 84 crores, it now is within touching distance of 86 crores total set by OM SHANTI OM. The film has worked well with the audience, and how!
With Shah Rukh Khan delivering yet another huge money spinner, he has retained his #1 position, something that may have been at least competed for had CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA worked. The conversation would resume again depending upon the performance of Shah Rukh Khan’s MY NAME IS KHAN and Akshay Kumar‘s KAMBAKTH ISHQ, BLUE, DE DHANA DHAN and HOUSE FULL – all of which are expected to arrive in 2009
