Inspiration & Global Fusion: A tribute to the oneness of the world. Designer Pallavi Goenka, who has earned national and international acclaim for her Ktha (‘a story’ in Indian language) concept in haute couture, is all set to showcase her ‘new festive collection collections – a tribute to the oneness of the world – at the Lakme Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2011.
Talking about her new collections, Pallavi Goenka says, “Unique fashion statements are created by combining elements from diverse cultures. It is my honour to dedicate my collection “Meler” to the oneness of the world. Meler is my attempt to bring together different cultures and religions in a harmony of colors, influences and traditions.
Inspired by the rich heritage and cultures around the world, her range is steeped in global tradition, yet is a fusion with soft flowing modern cuts and drapes. The emphasis is on surface texturing and heritage textiles’ revival. Robing the modern diva with the classics of yesteryears, it is the infusion of Indian imperial fabrics and innovative designs. The Ktha collection has casual fusion (ready-to-wear), funky fusion (parties and night outs) and festive fusion (weddings and festivals). Each Ktha garment is individually designed and hand crafted by skilled craftsmen. Each garment has its own preface, its story waiting to begin with you.
“The stronger and deeper the roots, the more fruitful the tree!” This saying applies aptly to Pallavi Goenka’s designing as well. She comes from the lineage of robust and charming land of dunes-Rajasthan. This bestows her with the intuitive creativity from which she brings colorful tales and the bright notes that add zing to the mundane and routine wear of the fast paced urban wardrobe.
Pallavi’s creations bring together the soul and heart of the glorious and traditional cultures which are hidden from the eye in the nooks of tribal and rural areas with the mind and head of modern cuts and designs. With the soul of a wanderer and being connected to her marrow through places like Kutch, Patan, etc (the interiors of Gujarat), Pallavi pursued the Endeavour to entwine the contemporary with the antique to create avant-garde outfits like never before for beautiful ever after collections.
To reach out to the designs that reach for the sky, she works at ground level with the artisians and craftsmen who are aces in their fields. The expert touch from where the craft originates encompassing Pallavi’s latest taste in garbs which fetches an unparallel assemblage of fashion at its best. “Creativity is the ability to see relationships where non exist”.
Pallavi has studied her culture’s fashion sense and the result is her rare collection, Ktha, a blend of tradition and modernity. Inspired by the beauty of India’s heritage fabrics and patterns, Pallavi proudly presents to you, Ktha, a modern interpretation of heritage fashion.
Pallavi Goenka is a Fashion Design graduate from SNDT Mumbai. In 1997, at the age of 18, Pallavi’s first major step in the world of fashion was her store ‘Pals Couture’ in Kemps Corner, Mumbai. Her fascination with the rich textile traditions of India and their sheer variety was the inspiration behind Ktha. The concepts and innovations vary from indo-western to western. The brand runs into pret, diffusion and couture. She has previously showcased at the Indian Premier London Fashion Week in May 2010. Currently her label ‘Ktha’ retails at designer stores across India and UK.
