‘Dhol’ is the same wine made by Priyadarshan, but with a different label. After the success of Bhagam Bhag, Priyadarshan is back to entertain the audience with one more entertainer movie. Dhol is a full-time comedy. The story of the movies is formed around four goofies, played by Sam (Tusshar Kapoor), Pakkya (Sharman Joshi), Maru (Rajpal Yadav) and Goti (Kunal Khemu). All four are good-for-nothing characters.

They try to grab the fortunes in life, but all their foolish attempts end up in total mess. Now they have one aim in life – become rich. But, how? There is a shortcut – trap a rich girl, get married, and acquire all possessions. Thus they meet Ritu (Tanushree Dutta) who comes to their neighbourhood with her grandparents.
Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu, Rajpal Yadav and Sharman Joshi in Dhol
Ritu came to the new place to trace her lost brother and solve the mystery that surrounded him. The four comrades, in their attempt to lure Ritu, get into a terrible mess that is created by some misunderstanding by the villains of the movie, the main person being Zikomo (Murli Sharma). They were in search of a Drum that contained a secret. Thinking that the four friends are associates of Ritu’s brother who knew where the Drum was hidden, Zikomo catches all four. Towards the end, we see the four guys in a pathetic condition and the climax is that they escape with the Drum.
Though the movie starts in a slow pace, immediately after, it picks up the speed and gets into the comedy track very well till the end. The plot is so humourous that the audience could not resist their laughter even when the four comrades were caught up by Zikomo. The expressions that were created out of fear and misery were funny enough to create laughter among the audience. Finally when they escaped the trap, you will feel relieved, but unluckily the story ends.
Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu, Sharman Joshi in Dhol
Dhol is another example of Priyadarshan’s skills at masala movies. After the box-office hits such as Garam Masala, he identified the changing trend in the Hindi movies and stepped up his work according to it. Though these movies share the common theme, the comedy, their constant success is the proof of Priyan’s ability in making the same wine taste differently.
The performance of all four was excellent. The noticeable fact is that there is a good chemistry among the four. However, Rajpal Yadav steals the show most of the time. Audience bursts out when he enters the scene with the funny expressions. Sharman is equally good at times while Kunal Khemu and Tusshar Kapoor surprise the audience in a different role as comedians. Tanushree justifies her role as Ritu. Though she does not contribute much to the central theme of the movie, i.e., comedy, she proves to be the cause for all what happened in it.
Tanushree Dutta, Rajpal Yadav in Dhol
Pritam’s music works well with the situations in the movie. The cinematography is impressive with attractive shots and pleasing background music throughout while the comedy is doing its rounds on the screen. Overall, watching Dhol is a thrilling experience.
