Jungle makes ‘Agyaat’ different from Bhoot or Phoonk- Ramu

Ram Gopal Varma, Sudeep at Phoonk success bash in JW Marriott on August 25th 2008 (3).JPG“In a movie like ‘Phoonk’ or ‘Bhooth’, I had to transport audiences to a mental situation where they start believing that something like this could be happening in their own household. This is why I brought in an urban and cosmopolitan setting for the film,” he states.

The ‘setting’ factor is the major reason why ‘Agyaat’ is set in a jungle.

“In case of ‘Agyaat’, audiences can be a little more relaxed because they realize that they will hardly visit a jungle. Unlike a ‘Phoonk’ or a ‘Bhoot’ where you get scared for the major reason being that you start believing that something like that could happen to you as well. That adds on to the scare factor. However, nothing like that happens in case of Agyaat,” Ramu gives his point of view.

Just like ‘Phoonk’ had ‘black magic’ as its protagonist, Ramu insists in case of ‘Agyaat’, it is the ‘agyaat’ element that holds centre stage.

“The protagonist here is ‘agyaat’ which is substituted by the jungle because that’s the only world visible to you. Everyone else is a character and so are the actors in the film who are a part of the unit that has come to shoot a film in the jungle. I had complete freedom to play around with the characters since they were being enacted by newcomers,” Ramu adds.
