Nanhe Jaisalmer Movie Review

Published on

Nanhe JaisalmerThe film has been mired in controversy; the reason being there was a dispute between the maker and an associate about the authenticity of the script. The associate, as you might know, claims that it has been stolen from him. I must admit, the story is rather original and is quite nice; off the beaten track. But the direction, sadly I can’t say the same for it.

Rating: 2/5

For starters, let’s begin with a brief sketch of the story line, shall we? Nanhe (Dwij Yadav), a small 10 year old boy, is the only male member of his family and helps his mother make both ends meet in rural Rajasthan. He is a tour guide and takes tourists around on his camel, Raja. Though he is forced to give up an idyllic childhood, one thing that he retains is the admiration for Bobby Deol, a huge star. The boy believes that he shares a strong bond with the actor and corresponds regularly with him through letters. Imagine to his luck that one day he runs into his living idol himself in the middle of the desert!

This triggers off a series of meetings between the star and the boy during which the actor gets into a philosophical frame of mind and imparts wisdom to the little child. As if this was not enough, due to family problems and his sister’s impending marriage looming ahead, the child is forced to forsake a jacket that he was getting made as a gift for his idol. The film then springs an unexpected surprise on the viewers, but to break that open will get me into a lot of trouble, so I will refrain.

I have already spoken about the positives of the movie- a decent script. That’s where it sort of ends. The script is not that that great, but I wanted to say something good about the film. Now, I won’t feel half as bad for telling you the negatives. For starters, the direction is really not up to the mark. The casting, too, is completely of center. Many might find the child actor cute and sweet, but in my opinion, all he did there was ham a child. That’s about it. The camel was far more realistic when it camel to the acting! As for Bobby Deol, I really feel that Sameer Karnik should have focused on the essential requirement of the script-a star! With all due respect, it would be an exaggeration to even call Bobby a consistent actor, so calling him a super star is completely out of the question. There would not be so much of brick lashing if the star was a fictitious one and Bobby was playing the role. But he played himself and that’s where the believability went kaput. The rest of the cast is not worth mentioning too and the sound track is simply abominable.

So if you were looking forward to this, I’m sorry to have burst your bubble, but my sincere advice is that this flick is best caught on TV, where I’m sure it will be shown very soon.
