August 12, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Peepli Live, the movie starring Aamir Khan makes a mark as the first ever non-commercial Hindi movie to hit over 600 screens on its release this Friday. It has by now recovered its production costs by selling its settlement rights for a total of Rs. 100 million.

The movie is made approximately on a budget of Rs.100 million inclusive of the marketing costs. Journalist-turned director Anusha Rizvi made her directorial debut with this movie which is a satirical take on the circumstances leading poor farmers to commit suicides. It has already elicited political and media response. The film would also be shown in over 100 halls in the overseas countries, apart from Britain.

In the UK, the movie’s production team has partnered with Artificial Eye, which is again the first for a Hindi Film. Artificial Eye happens to be the finest distribution chain that looks after the circulation of art house mainstream releases. The movie is scheduled to be released on 24th of September in Britain.

The cast of the film is indeed a mixed bag, since it has actors who are actual tribals from Bhadwai village, Madhya Pradesh. Other cast members include those of the theatre troupe, Naya Theatre, initiated by the late legend of Indian theater, Habib Tanvir.
