Rebellion In The Ranks…Disgusted And Defiant About Producers’s Stance, Vashu Now Sees Multiplex Point Of View

Published on

Vashu has waited enough. There’s pressure on him to postpone his son’s debut film further. But enough! Vashu whose film Kal Kissne Dekha is caught in a curious crossfire of conflicting interests in the current face-off between producers and multiplex owners, is in no mood to comply with his fraternity’s interests.

Vashu Bhagnani who has so far quietly complied with the producers’ fraternity and postponed the release of his son’s debut film twice, now feels that the multiplex owners were being wronged.

“So far I only saw my colleagues’ point of view. But now I feel the multiplex owners have a genuine grievance. We need to look at their problems seriously instead of only focusing on our own interests. This is the stance that should’ve been taken long earlier. We’ve been short-sighted about the issues concerned.”

Vashu Bhagnani is no longer in a mood to go with his fraternity’s wish regarding the release of his son’s film.

“I’ve so far listened to them. I planned two release dates for Kal Kissne Dekha and cancelled them when the producers’ association said I’d be damaging the interests of the film industry by breaking the strike. I was willing to release my film in single-theatres and stand-alone mutiplexes. But pulled out on request. But no more.I’m going ahead with my June12 release, come what may.”

According to Vashu negotiations between producers and Big Pictures regarding the resumption of releases in the ‘Big’ chain of theatres has already been worked out.

“Even if the other multiplex owners do not come to an agreement with film producers I’m going ahead and releasing Kal Kissne Dekha in the 225 theatres owned by Big Pictures.”

Says Vashu, “It’s all in the hands of our representatives Amit Khanna, Sunil Lulla, Mukesh Bhatt and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. If no resolution is reached our industry is in serious trouble because we have the monsoon, then Ramzan and pre-Diwali coming up. I won’t wait any longer.”
