This New Year, celebrities protest against piracy and terrorism connection

Neha Dhupia in the still from movie Maharathi.jpgEver since confirmed reports have come around how money generated from the sales of pirated DVDs is used for funding terrorist and underworld activities, there has been an outrage amongst the Bollywood industry folks. The issue seems to be much bigger now. While earlier there were cries around saying NO to piracy in order to save the industry from sinking further, today the issue is about safeguarding your own life. With the money accumulated from piracy seemingly finding a way into the hands of trouble makers who are busy buying arms and ammunition, it has become a part of much major concern.

Should we, as ‘aam junta’, at the least do our bit by refusing to fall pray to piracy lest it comes back to kill us? Shouldn’t we make sure that we spread awareness about this menace that is not just making quite a few jobless but also indirectly facilitating mass murder? Bollywood pleads yet again to support this case and this time around, it is looking at not just safeguarding the ones impacted within the industry but also the common man!

But this is not all. The information about how money from piracy funds terror should be made available to people so that they are educated around how they themselves are getting impacted. Around the issue of buying pirated movies, my point is that there has to be a curb on having these copies come out. At the end of the day, when you see a movie right in front of you, it is a huge temptation. You see it on the streets, on the web. Why is that allowed? You can tell people not to have drugs but if it is served on the platter, how would you resist not trying it out? Same holds good for movies too.

Neha Dhupia
Neha Dhupia in the still from movie Maharathi (3).jpg I agree, this is quite terrible and let’s come together to endorse the view that contributing to piracy only helps the evil forces buy bombs and bullets.

Upen Patel
This has been an on going battle but we must come together and put a stop to anything that supports the underworld and terrorism, which includes buying pirate DVDs.

Tanushree Dutta
I think piracy has plagued the motion picture industry a long time and viewers can put a stop to it if they say No. It’s in our hands to stop flow of money to this funding racket.

Sajid Khan
I don’t know how accurate the point is around film piracy being used to fun terrorism. However, what I know for sure is that due to piracy, thousands of jobs are lost and money is held back. It is high time that the Govt. also looks at piracy as a form of terrorism.

Rohit Shetty
Let’s not blame the common man or the administrators here if pirated DVDs are up for grabs. This is happening mainly because of people from within the industry. We are not united due to which this initiative has never taken a constructive shape. You end up hearing things like – ‘Wo aa raha hai to main nahi aa raha’! How stupid can we all get! Otherwise to think of it, it is a one day’s job for all us to just come together and approach the CM’s office to let him be made aware about the issue. You would see how things close down in a jiffy.

Payal Rohatgi
Payal Rohatgi at President is Coming premiere in Fame Adlabs on 26th November 2008(6).JPG Yes, I agree piracy is a very serious issue as it affects the success of a film on which so many people work hard like actors, producer, director, financier etc. Also just got to know that piracy money goes to underworld and terrorists which is so scary. There should be strict check in theatres so that the moment a film releases, it’s pirated copy cannot be made.

Suneel Darshan
It’s a jihad every cinema person & enthusiast ought to have sworn to fight for its very survival.

Vipul Shah
It is a very valid point and everybody who is a true Indian should stop buying pirated DVD purely for the love of the country

Irrfan Khan
Let us make it crystal clear that the money is being routed to underworld then it’ll be much more effective. It is easier to convince common man and curbing this menace is really possible.

John Abraham
Its a shame if our people buy these DVDs

Feroze Khan
I am totally with the thought. It is a threat on our face and common man can help us destroy this completely by saying No to pirated DVDs.

Ramesh Taurani
Piracy as a practice should’ve been curbed years ago. This kind of crime should have a special police, just like we have the BSF. It only goes to show that if the Govt. doesn’t take necessary action soon, then it could lead to worse results.

Sonu Sood
Stop Piracy. I am sure this movement will not only save our industry but will also put a check on underworld activities. This should be supported by everyone.
