great write up on a memorable function. the concluding remarks by Shammiji are a floral tribute to Rafi Sahab by his loyalists. Not just Shammiji, many more actors of that era owe their everything to Rafi Sahab. Rafi Sahab moulded his voice so perfectly that one would tend to believe that the song was actually being sung by the hero. Shammiji had also recently said in an interview on CNN-IBN that he used to sit through the entire recording of the songs sung by Rafi Sahab and that the legendary singer knew exactly what was needed. Tareef Karoon Kya Uski is an example which according to Shammiji himself is an innovation by Rafi Sahab which went on to become a cult tune.

RAFI SAHAB’S SONGS REACH AN EXTRA HEIGHT WHEN SHAMMIJI ENACTS THE SONGS.
EVERY SONG OF RAFIJEE & SHAMMIJEE IS LIKE ” SONE - PE- SUHAGA “.
ACCORDING TO ME , IF IN A RAFI SAHAB’S CD COMPILATION , SHAMMIJEE’S
SONG IS MISSED TO INCLUDE -THAT VERY CD BECOMES INCOMPLETE !

Yes well said Shammi Sir without Rafi sahab there can be no Shammi kapoor.
Personally I think that Rafi sahabs voice is most suited for Shammi followed by other heros
