Rush Hour 3: Why The Rush?
The first Rush Hour flick was entertaining; I’ll give you that. The second got on your nerves a little, but then again, the first was a hit so there was no avoiding that. But when the third installment of the movie came out, I braced myself before entering the movie hall. You see, I feared that I would be subjected to mindless antics of tired stars who were doing the entire thing on a lark and the whole purpose of the movie is to rake in the moolah on the strength of the popularity of the predecessors. How I wish that I could say I was being simply paranoid and prejudiced and that the film is not quite bad! Sadly, I was right bang on and I could not wait to get out of the theatre.

While there were a lot of flaws in Rush Hour 1 & 2, the third movie just takes the cake because you have to look for the film in between the flaws instead of the other way round. Yet again, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan team up to solve the world’s problems by tackling high level crime all by themselves. Yes sir! That’s the way it’s done. In this flick, Chinese Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) is responsible for protecting the Chinese Ambassador Han (Tzi Ma) who is incidentally in LA for business purposes. There is an attempt made on his life and Lee is after the assassin. Meanwhile, all this happens to be in the area where James Carter (Chris Tucker), an LAPD detective traffic. True to the nature of a hero, he follows in hot pursuit. Lee and the assassin have a brother thing from the past going on, so Lee lets his heart rule and the villain flees. Needless to say, the two lead guys now become the favorites of the Chinese Ambassador and are given the task of protecting his 20 year old hot daughter on a trip to Paris. In the midst of all this, there is a dark secret that is being possessively guarded by the underworld dwellers and the secret is revealed only in the climax scene.

Yvan Attal, Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 3
Sorry to burst any bubbles here, but anyone with the brains of a donkey is sure to figure out the “secret” within the first five minutes of the movie. Though the main guys in the movie are Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, there is a worthy ensemble of supporting characters too. Mais il est pas mal, it is really bad, that none of them manage to add anything to the film. The climax, if you can call it that, is a ridiculous attempt to relive the climax of Rush Hour 2. I didn’t think too much of that, and the same goes for this.

Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, Jingchu Zhang in Rush Hour 3
The director Brett Ratner seems to be least bothered to showcase the talents of the actors or the credibility of the script. As far as the acting goes, Jackie Chan seems worn out, not because he is getting old, but because he seems to be tired of acting in such a distasteful movie, it is almost insulting. As for Tucker, he can’t get over the shrieking! I swear, at night, his banshee voice still haunts me.

Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 3
All in all, I would like to say, please do not rush to watch this one because you will end cursing yourself.
