Land of the Lost
‘Land of The Lost’ by Brad Silberling is a seriously crazy movie. True, while critics may consider it a bad one and a plot that is filled with nothing but a dinosaur piss; it can’t be written off so simply. Because it’s not that bad and one could at least try watching the flick with moderate admiration if not with fervent hatred.
The film is set in unbelievable landscapes that change with the whims of the art director. The premise of the film reflects fake settings; for example how one can reason the existence of a primordial swamp in the walking distance of a desert that seems limitless. Again explaining a motel sign where there is no motel but plenty of water in the pool is wee bit difficult and weirder is the fact that how can dinosaurs and early man are walking at the same time on earth like in The Flintstones.Let’s get into the plot of the movie.
Here is Dr. Rick Marshall; a role portrayed by Will Ferrell is a scientist who does not get any respect until he discovers a time machine that takes him to an incredible land. Along with him there is only one scientist who believes him and his theory of solving energy crisis by importing fossil fuels from parallel dimension is Holly Centrell, a role played by Anna Friel. Hole Centrell was denied Cambridge gates be cause she also believed in the theory of Dr. Rick Marshall.
In their journey to that unbelievable land, there was Danny McBride as Will. Now don’t ask the reason as why a fireworks salesman teamed with scientists. The reasons for it are far too complicated to be explained in words here. Will also works as a part time guide to a cave which in all senses can be described a s a mysterious place. The reason being that the tour of cave includes a river that has no origin, plausible explanation is it took birth in thin air and then flows into an artificial mountain.
All are sucked through a space-time whirlpool into an alternate land of ferocious dinosaurs and reptiles-The Land of The Lost.
In that land these people became friendly with Chaka played by Jorma Taccone. Chaka belonged to a nomadic tribe who is trying to get back to his tribe. He is the only human-faced primate and eventually we need to see whether these three comes out alive as celebrity icons with the help of Chaka from this land of unbelieving danger or perish in The Land of the Lost. Since Chaka speaks the same language as the others so the movie happily moves into the next sequence of shots and scenes.
The land of the lost is filled with all feelings of dinosaur from dinosaur intelligence, dinosaur urine and dinosaur manure to dinosaur babies. The incredible land includes carnivorous trees and blood-sucking insects besides the whacky soundtrack. The song is from A Chorus Line.
The inspiration of the movie is from the 1974 TV series, but there is no evidence to confuse the film with the TV serial itself with one exception of deliriously unbelievable and artificial location. Confronted with these kinds of deadly locations, there is least expression of fear in the faces of the actors. While some criticize the expressions others might simply enjoy it; all in the choice.
