WALL-E Movie Review

WALL-E is one of the best animated movies to be released in a very long time. At times it manages to be almost poetic and lyrically beautiful in its exploration of the all too familiar subject of love. As expected from Pixar Animation Studios, the movie is dazzlingly beautiful in its animation, but it’s also sublimely anchored in the central love story. The emotional arc of the story unfolds as gently as flower petals. (more…)

Journey to the Center of the Earth … deserves journey to multiplex
Most movies based on popular books buckle under the pressure and end up disappointing. But “Journey To The Centre Of the Earth” wears lightly the pressure of being built on the Jules Verne classic and delivers in a very understated way. Brendan Fraser, who has cemented his reputation as the action star with “The Mummy” series, leads the cast as they set out to the journey to the centre of the earth to uncover the mystery of the disappearance of his brother. The Incredible Hulk Poster

Very few Hollywood action movies get it right. In this age of computer generated images in blockbusters, far too often, depth of character is sacrificed. They might thrill but fail to resonate emotionally. “The Incredible Hulk” has plenty going for it with its action, but just ends up being an action movie with very little to care about. (more…)

I Am Legend

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

I AM LegendDaunting it is to imagine oneself being the only survivor on a wilderness or an uninhabited island. A tangible theme for a feature, yet not many movies try to explore a scene of total solitude from human race. One forceful reason may be that it is hard to hold the audience single-handedly (for any performer), without any entertaining situations arising out of interaction with ones own kind or warmth of relationships in the life of lead actor. The Mist

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

Nathan Gamble in The MistThe Mist is based on Stephen King’s novella of the same name. Director Frank Darabont creates an eerie ambience that instills fear in the movie watcher. He succeeds in scaring you on the premise that you have nothing to fear, except the creatures of your imagination. The Mist feeds on the idea that scared folk with overactive imaginations tend to overreact when inexplicable things start to happen around them. (more…)

Sunshine: A Bright Future

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Cillian Murphy in SunshineThat is exactly what we WON’T be having, according to the makers of Sunshine. Imagine how the world will be 50 years from now. Much the same? Well, how about a century from now? Have not given it much thought. Mostly, the human race might not be there. Or maybe we will be like The Jetsons. This thought has fueled the imagination of countless film makers and one thing they all seem to agree upon is that it’s not getting much better. Films like The Matrix tell us how the machines are going to make us their slaves. Movies like Minority Report tell us that the world will become more of a global village. Then there are movies like Sunshine which tell us that we will be frozen to death. (more…)

Transformers: Totally Transformed

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Megan Fox in TransformersI always wondered about the comic and cartoon characters I know from my childhood. What if they were to become human? Ok, fine, I’ll settle for something more realistic. What if they were given human forms by some great film maker? Would that not be super? Well, no. Till now, The Flintstones did not work for me; Fantastic Four are not that fantastic anymore and Superman, well, let’s not go there. The point is, by doing something like this, you ruin someone’s imagination and anyone who tries it better makes something good, or face the wrath of many fans. (more…)
