I Hate Valentine’s Day: Love Game with New Rules

Written and directed by Nia Vardalos, I Hate Valentine’s Day is a romantic comedy rated PG-13. Presented by IFC films, this movie has been shot extensively in Brooklyn and New York City in US.

The main character of the film is Genevieve who runs a florist shop and sells flowers with abundance of joy as she loves her job. Besides selling flowers she also pours on invaluable advice for guys who are in look for the right valentine gift. But for Genevieve the love game is different and Valentine’s Day next year transformed her world of living and loving.

Genevieve is truly and deeply a mad person and you must be wondering as to why I came to this conclusion. I say, I have reasons. This is because she has a weird rule book for her love stories. She cannot date a man beyond fifth day. Come the day, she simply walks out of the door and disappear into thin air. Additionally, she would specify what each date should be like. The fact is she enjoys and loves until the falling in love apart and hates the inevitable heartaches and break up.

Do you know what does it mean when a woman says we should stay friends? It simply means that no physical intimacy but contacts can be maintained through sending flowers on special occasions, most importantly birthdays.

For this movie, let us assume that Genevieve began her dating when she was 20 years of age. On an average there were about 3 men in her life in a year. By this time she has already dated 39 men. As a gentleman, a woman’s age is not to be said explicitly or asked implicitly. Again, various news reports and surveys published in New York Times and ABC news say that average American woman has between four and seven sex partners in a lifetime. So with 39, isn’t this an obsession?

I Hate Valentine’s DayBut whatever be it, she looks sweet and simple and most importantly she is aware of this magical beauty of hers. The audience definitely once again sees Nia Vardalos in the entire film as smiling continuously and thoroughly just in the film My Life in Ruins released in the same month. I felt that nobody flaunts their teeth or smile so much unless they suffer from Constant Smiling syndrome or giocondaphobia.

All said and done Genevieve is loved for her immense wisdom for the world of romance. The gas assistants in the cutest florist shop of hers are great performers as well. The hero of the film happens to be the one who has opened a restaurant Get on Tapas few steps away from the florist shop.

This handsome and cute hero is the co-star of Nia in the film “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Yes, John Corbett who is simply far too nice to get settled with Genevieve’s 5 day rule book in the love game. And this time Vardalos need to send her flowers on the Valentine Day.
