All about Steve
This summer Sandra Bullock is seen more in romantic comedies. First it was The Proposal that got released in the month of June and now the latest flick is All about Steve. In this latter movie one will get irritated as soon as you see her, not because she overacted but it seems that her character had no substance and simply one needs to keep one’s brain out to see Sandra Bullock playing such roles. She is more remembered for her gorgeous look and the coziness of being the girl next door.
The film written by Kim barker and directed by Phil Trail essentially revolves around Mary Horowitz who is a cruciverbalist, one that constructs crossword puzzles. She works for a newspaper and creates the perfect crossword for the readers. She is engrossed with vast number of words and how they should be spelt but hardly knew what meaning they hold in real life. She barely socialized and when she did she was always seen in clunky red disco boots and may be we can assume that to be the reason of her being single even in 40ish.
The story moves on when Mary goes in to stay with her parents as because her apartment was being fumigated. But a thought might cross someone’s mind that did she earn enough to live on her own as a crossword constructor as because it’s often thought that this job cannot provide with lot of money.
Her parents arranges for a blind date for their daughter. Her date Steve is a television camera man with a cable network. As soon as Mary sees Steve, her libido is ignited and we cannot call it a love at first sight. It can be well explained as being erotomania, the way she throws herself at him, believing that they are destined to be together.

Sandra Bullock, Thomas Haden Church, Bradley Cooper in All About Steve
But Steve is trying to flee away at the very sight of Mary while Mary’s only aim in life gets transformed into pursuing Steve wherever he went. Each time Mary meets Steve, she would jump like a little girl up and down and run towards him to shower her affection. However, the worst truth is that Mary has nothing that was appealing and audience will definitely feel that her character lacked substance.
In one of the desperate shots you can see Mary running in that disco boots of her along side Steve’s TV crew van. The crew was assigned to cover the story of some deaf boys who have fallen into the well as it was breaking news. As Steve was to cover the accident story, Mary was following him running behind and fell into the hole herself.
All About Steve is a comedy that has elements of good moments but in a fractured way, while the rest of the story is somewhat flat. One will laugh, but only to save the film from trivial fate. The film tried to focus that the modern woman how much desperately tries to be on her own feet is often desperate for a male validation.
