Waiting for Dublin: Exudes Old-fashioned Charm

Waiting For Dublin

Waiting for Dublin, directed by Roger Tucker and presented by Cinema Libre Studio is a film that takes you back in 1940 and fills your senses with nostalgia. The story unfolds in a picturesque setting of an Irish village where post office and the pub is the same place with only one telephone.

Film: Waiting for Dublin
Cast: Andrew Keegan, Jade Yourell, Hugh O Conor, Guido De Craene
Director: Roger Tucker
Writer: Chuck Conaway
Running Time: 1 hour 23 minutes
Rating: 2/5

The backdrop of the film is wartime and there is petrol crisis as a result of which there are horses and carts as the only mode of transport.

The film is shot with situation of World War II the year of 1945. It is then that once an American pilot Mike played by Andrew Keegan and his co-pilot Twickers performed by Hugh O Conor makes an emergency landing of their aero plane in Ireland as the plane ran out of fuel.

At Ireland they were given heroes’ welcome at the pub. It was at that pub Mike and Twickers met another German pilot named Kluge, the role played by Guido De Craene. In the war, the position of Ireland was neutral and so visitors were always most welcome in Ireland and more specifically at the pub except English people.

The pub had people of many genre with some extremely eccentric who spent most of the time at the pub for mere entertainment. These people always moved in unison, decided as one and even go to Sunday Mass as one unit.

However, the story takes the turn when people there come to know about Mike’s condition and became sympathetic towards him. At Chicago, Mike challenged $10,000 bet with nephew of Al Capone named Vito, a dangerous man with nefarious background.

The challenge was that Mike needed to shoot down minimum of five fighter jet planes of Germany in the war. Before the peace process begins and war comes to an end, Mike needed another fighter plane to win his bet and amidst these he developed lust for Maggie, the local senorita of Ireland, a role played by Jade Yourell. However, Maggie refuses to have sex with Mike, until he promises of marriage to her.

The crux of the film is how Mike manages to do all that he wanted. It is for the audience to discover with which weapons Mike finally got his fifth kill and how Mike’s plan became successful at the end.

The performance of all the actors in Waiting for Dublin was awesome and the location breathtakingly beautiful dotted with splendid scenic beauty. However, the film lacked something and that is for one and all to watch, observe and feel. Nonetheless the film is harmless and sweet too.

The film exudes an old-fashioned charm that is quite alluring. It would have greater impact if it was shot in black and white as in no time you would have felt transported some years back in a time machine.

Besides the actors, writer and director the credit of the film should also be given to the cinematographer Marc Felperlaan who cares to bring about that rich look of yesteryears in the film. The film is suitable for all age group audience.
