Rejuvenation 2012, an exhibition of Sculptures by celebrated Indian sculptor Basudeb Biswas & Paintings by Subroto Mandal, will be on display at The Jahangir Art Gallery (Gallery #2) from 9th May to 15th May 2012. Over 50 works of ace sculptor Basudeb Biswas & over 25 paintings by artist Subroto Mandal will be on display at the exhibition.
Basu is also one of the rare sculptors who personally casts and creates the pedestal for his own works. He is best known for the use of traditional sculpting techniques that dont use any mould, which is why none of his pieces can be recreated. He adds detail and texture to individual pieces, making them unique and intricate. He works with bronze, a strong, hard metal, which is otherwise difficult to shape
Subroto Mandal’s works are inspired by Shekhawati wall paintings as well as Kalighata Patachitra. He combines the open art gallery of Rajasthan’s largest concentration of frescos with lotus eating babu culture portrayed in Kalighatpatas.
Renowned singers Bhupinder & Mitali Singh inaugurated the exhibition of Basudeb Biswas (Sculptor) & Subroto Mondal (Painter) at Jahangir Art Gallery yesterday. Both Bhupi ji and Mitali ji were stunned by the exquisiteness of the bronze sculptures created by Basu and the traditional paintings by Subroto. They spent a long time with the artists trying to understand the intricacies of their work and their passion for art.
Mitali ji broke into Bengali quite often with both the artists whose roots are Bengali, while Bhupi ji joked in broken Bengali that he speaks Bengali too.
Among the most well known Indian women artists Anjolie Ela Menon dropped in for a dekko too and was heard congratulating the artists. Other guests included artist Daxa Khandwala
