The Kala Ghoda Arts festival screened The National Award wining film “I Am” which was followed by an interactive session with none other than the acclaimed
director Onir and co producer and actor of the film, Sanjay Suri.
This concept based film highlighted issues relevant to the urban society in India. Onir shared with the audience how he conceptualised a plot so real and how when he had approached several production houses for this film, far from mainstreet Bollywood films he was turned down by most.
HIs association with the actor Sanjay Suri began long before this film, having worked together on several films before that were also topic based. They made a fantastic team, each bringing out the best in the other. It was great to see the duo back at the Kala Ghoda festival, where two years back they had been there, promoting “I Am’ before its release. They were back now to screen their film which had won many awards. They were delighted to open the ground for discussion on their film and interact with the audiences who had several questions regarding the themes of the four stories interwoven to reflect inseccurities and problems faced in society as well as how the direction could envision and partake the challenge of making a movie most other directors would shy away from. A film clse to their hearts and relevant to society Sanjay and Onir had a lot to offer about their film.
