Vidya Malvade, Manisha Koirala, Shobana, Adnan Sami, Hariharan, Roop Kumar Rathod, Sitara Devi at Kathak concert to pay tribute to Kathak dancer Shurushri Madhurita Sarang in Ravindra Natya Mandir on 23rd April 2009 .
Mumbai, Thursday, April 23 2009: Madhurita Sarang Dance Music & Festival (MSDMF) 2009 witnessed tribute from eminent performers including National Award winner Padmashri Shobhana Chandrakumar, followed by a first ever classical performance by the Chak De India fame, Vidya Malvade, Ranjit Barot an artist of instinctive musicality gifted with absolute mastery of the instrument, well known Kathak dancer, Sandeep Mahavir and a performance by Manganyar group of Jaisalmer.
MSDMF 2009 awardees were the Kathak Queen Shrimati Sitara Devi and the Maestro of Sarangi, Ustad Sultan Khan Sahab. Also present at the occasion were Salim Sulaiman, the Chak De girls, Roopkumar Rathod, Sonali Rathod, Hariharan and Ismail Darbar. The concert was held at Ravindra Natya Mandir and the entry was only by invitation. The event was managed and executed by Molecule Communiccations (P) Ltd and was conceptualized by AMS Dance Company.

MSDMF is celebrated every year by Shri Sandeep Mahavir as a tribute to Shushri Madhurita Sarang his Mother and Guru. It is a rare occasion to have the all artists of Indian Classical Music in a form of Jugalbandi performing on a single stage. This is the 3rd year after having it successfully done since past 2 years in Mumbai and Delhi in which Highness Shri S. M. Krishnaji, Governor of Mumbai awarded Padmavibhushan Pandit Birju Maharajji and Chief Justice of India, Shri P. P.Neolekarji awarded Shrimati Uma Sharma.
About Shushri Madhurita Sarang
Shushri Madhurita Sarang, is the first unrivalled Kathak artist to have performed at the 2nd world percussion panorama along with the well-known singer Late Shobha Gurtu. She learned the great art from all the three schools of Kathak under the maestros like Late Pandit Sundar Prasadji, Late Lachu Maharaji, Late Pandit Chaube Maharaji and Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaji. Apart from Kathak, she was also trained in the rigours of Bharat Natyam. Nritya Darshan, a dance school established in 1969 in Mumbai was founded by Late Madhurita Sarang, this is now led by her disciple and an eminent Kathak dancer himself, Shri Sandeep Mahavir.
