Collection note by Ken Ferns for Lakme Fashion Week – Summer / Resort 2015 .”With eyes wide shut and a mind that is open,Where thoughts are awakened and the body is so broken;Where hallucinations revel in the darkness on the mind,And the scent of the flower locks you in visions far behind.”- Ken Ferns

For the summer / resort 2015 season, Ken Ferns’ draws inspiration from the poppy flower in his collection titled, The Eternal Sleep. Throughout history, poppies have been used as a symbol of sleep, peace and even death. Sleep, because the opium extracted from them is a sedative and death because of the common blood-red color of the poppy flower. In fact, In ancient Greek and Roman myths, poppies were used as offerings to the dead and were placed on tombstones to symbolize eternal sleep.
This symbolism was also evoked in the children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in which the magical poppy field threatened to make the protagonists sleep forever.Through this fantastic collection, Ken Ferns will have you join him on a journey of hallucinations, visions and broken memories…which he poetically calls, THE ETERNAL SLEEP.
