Waheeda Rehman honoured by Whistling Woods

Waheeda Rehman, Govind Nihalani, Subhash Ghai at Whistling Woods Event in Filmcity, Mumbai on 10th May 2014.Mumbai, May 10, 2013: Waheeda Rehman, Shyam Benegal, Mr.Govind Nihlani, J.OmPrakash and Mohan Kumar along with Western India Cinematographers Association (WICA) and industry stalwarts came together at Whistling Woods International (WWI) to pay tribute to Bollywood’s veteran cinematographers V.K. Murthy & V.Babasaheb. The memorial service was held at the Pelucia Auditorium at WWI at 10:30

With several prestigious awards and major movies in their kitty, V.K.
Murthy & V.Babasaheb have made an incredible contribution in the field of cinematography. V.K. Murthy was Guru Dutt’s regular cameraman on his movies. He provided some of Indian cinema’s most notable images in starkly contrasted black and white. He also shot India’s first cinemascope film, Kaagaz Ke Phool. For his contribution to film industry, particularly Indian film industry he was awarded the IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. On 19 January 2010, he was honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for 2008 with Sathvika Samineni.

Cinematographer V Babasaheb has worked on iconic Bollywood films that spanned over six decades, such as, ‘Seema’, ‘Daag’, ‘Baadal’, ‘Aap Ki Kasam’, ‘Aashiq Hoon Baharon Ka’, ‘Ganga Jamuna’ and ‘Akhir Kyon’.
Babasaheb received no acclaim, and very little recognition throughout his lifetime.

Ms. Meghna Ghai-Puri, President – Whistling Woods International, said “WWI has always been on the forefront to acknowledge dedicated contribution to the Indian Film Industry. We are proud to host this memorial service for veterans like Murthyji and Babasaheb, who have contributed immensely to Indian cinema during their lifetime.”

Their memorial ceremony was followed by lunch and screening of the movie ‘Ganga Jamuna’ and ‘Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam’.
