Stylist to the stars, Vikram Phadnis ditched the usual bling and instead showed an earthy collection at the Dubai Fashion Week. From earthy tones of rust, maroons, dull blue and forest greens to natural fabrics like Tussars, linen and natural silks, the Bollywood designer got his inspiration from the Indian heritage. The show started with a line of printed saris with emphasis on the borders.
There was a profusion of prints, polka, paisley, floral and stripes mixed together in contrasts. Vikram used intricate hand and resham embroidery to embellish the pieces which were enhanced by antique gota (metallic Indian lace) and foil printing. Khari work (gold block printing) on velvet enhanced the richness of the line. The popular Anarkali cuts were seen on the dresses and Angrakha coats and hand embroidered corsets were matched with flared skirts. The outfits were accessorized with jewel belts, clutch bags and brocade potlis with Mughal inspired jewellery and motifs on them.
The men’s wear line had long and medium length sherwanis matched with printed dhotis. Vikram whose work would be next seen in Bollywood films like Bhootnath and God Tussi Great Ho showed a collection which was unconventional yet glamorous.
