Abhishek Bachchan On Comic Roles & Bachchan Legacy

Published on

Abhishek Bachchan is in a mood to talk about his role as a producer. He also talks about the constant criticism directed at him.

Living Up To The Legacy

As we all can imagine living up to the legacy of someone like Amitabh Bachchan is no mean feat. His grandfather was a famous poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. And his mother is none other than Jaya Bachchan, another celebrated actress. So, it can be overwhelming for the most part. Abhishek candidly admits that he doesn’t think about it at all. If he thinks too much about it, the pressure will bog him down eventually, which he never allows to happen. Abhishek Bachchan looks at it from a different angle. Not just Abhishek, everyone who came after Mr. Bachchan had to live up to the gold standards set by him. And it was hard on everyone. And it is difficult to surpass the legacy of someone like Mr. Bachchan. Problem solved!

About Doing Comic Roles

Abhishek Bachchan has been part of many comedies of late. And he’s also part of few upcoming comedies. So, has it been a conscious decision to chase comedies? Well, according to him, the comedy films that we are talking about came to him when he had done with the dark and intense roles (Guru & Dum Maro Dum). Therefore, he was looking for something lighter. But Abhishek is quick to add that comedies are difficult to pull off. You need to be alert to do comedies as they can be quite demanding. Speaking of his latest release Housefull 3, he says that he liked the script written by Farhad-Sajid, with whom he worked in Bol Bachchan. But Abhishek is ready to take up other genres now.

Script Selection Process

How does he choose his scripts? Does he have the same thought process when it comes to movies he act in and the movies he produce? He says it is different. Some roles that come your way might not be commercially viable, but you anyway do them because you like those roles. But being a producer can be even tougher. It is difficult to control budgets when it comes to the movies he produces.

Handling Criticism

Well, Abhishek has been subjected to so much criticism in the past when his movies failed. It was really difficult for him as it is a vulnerable thing to deal with. But over the years, he has learned to take criticism in his stride. These days, he uses criticism to improve himself.

Twitter Trolls

Last but not least, he talks about the twitter trolls, who used to assume that he is a soft target. Well, Abhishek says that he likes trolls as they help him keep grounded. He jokes that they might be his biggest fans as they spend so much time thinking about him. He says that social media is full of trolls. And if you can’t deal with them, then you shouldn’t be on these platforms. But Abhishek has learned to deal with them. Unless they say nasty things about his wife and daughter, he takes the trolls lightly.
