It seems Alec Baldwin has landed himself in another controversy with the recent accusations of yelling at a waitress at the 2023 PEN America Spring Literary Gala in New York.
The incident allegedly occurred while he was attending the event with his wife, Hilaria Baldwin. The actor, known for his roles in films like “The Hunt for Red October” and “Glengarry Glen Ross,” and as a recurring guest on “Saturday Night Live,” reportedly upset the young waitress when she began to place plates on a table where he was standing and conversing.
The staff member, said to be in her late 20s or early 30s, reportedly felt shocked and visibly upset by the incident. It’s claimed that Alec’s outburst was brief and went relatively unnoticed by others at the star-studded event.
The actor was in high spirits on the red carpet earlier, seen posing with Hilaria, his wife. He was sharply dressed in a black suit, white shirt, and bow-tie, while Hilaria graced the event in a glamorous black gown adorned with a tiered feather edge.

It’s also worth mentioning that this is the couple’s first red carpet appearance since the charges related to the tragic “Rust” shooting incident were dropped. Baldwin had been charged with involuntary manslaughter following the accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film “Rust” in October 2021. The charges were cleared in April 2023.
The actor’s representatives have yet to comment on the recent allegations from the gala. This is an ongoing situation and further updates are expected.
Alec Baldwin – What happened at the Rust set?
The tragic incident on the set of the film “Rust” in October 2021 sent shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond. Alec Baldwin, the film’s star and producer, was rehearsing a scene when a prop gun he was handling discharged a live round, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.
The film was being shot at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular filming location near Santa Fe, New Mexico. The prop gun, according to reports, was supposed to be loaded with dummy rounds, but it appears a live round had been mistakenly included.
Hutchins, a rising star in the cinematography world known for her work on films such as “The Tragedy of Macbeth” and “Archenemy,” was immediately airlifted to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
The incident raised serious questions about safety on film sets, specifically relating to the handling of firearms. There were discussions about the responsibilities of the armorer and the assistant director, as well as Baldwin himself, given that he was both the actor handling the weapon and a producer on the film.
Following a comprehensive investigation, Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter. However, the charges were dropped in April 2023, with the legal system acknowledging that Baldwin had no intention of discharging a live round and no knowledge of the fatal bullet in the weapon.
The “Rust” shooting will undoubtedly continue to influence the handling of firearms on film sets, likely leading to more rigorous safety protocols to prevent such a tragedy from happening again in the future.
