Shahrukh Khan ties up with Shopper Stop for their new campaign – “Start Something new” in ITC Grand Maratha on April 23rd 2008. B.S Nagesh, MD, Shoppers Stop, believes SRK’s magic will make shopper’s splurge in the Shopper’s Stop stores. The Badshah of Bollywood stepped in to promote the new look of the country’s pioneer retail chain Shopper’s Stop.
Shoppers Stop started out in 1991 but Kishore Biyani who entered retail much later in 1997 took lead in overall business growth. Currently, Shoppers Stop has retail presence of 88 stores as compared to 400 stores of Biyani and the management knows it well.
While commenting on the company’s plans to revive brand image BS Nagesh, MD, Shoppers’ Stop said: “When everyone is thinking we are on way to end, here is a new beginning.” All Shoppers Stop stores will now wear a new look and the management says the rebranding exercise will cost upto Rs 50 crore. Though the advertisement budget is huge and the management is of view that it is important to invest now to create space in consumer’s mind in the future.
But expansion would need cash and tons of it. “We are planning to raise Rs 500 crore through rights issue, which will happen this quarter,†said Nagesh. So would this ramp up eventually help them to get a getter valuation to sell out? The Shopper’s Stop management insists they are a hot property in the making but not yet on a clearance sale.
