Black money not used in films like in past: Rathore

Black money is not used in films as much as it was used earlier, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 47th International Film Festival of India, Rathore also said that a cashless society would not only curb terror, but also dacoities and thefts because there would not be enough cash to go around with.

“Film industry, right from the beginning — from the time it was given industry status — it worked on cheque payments, bank loans. Black money is not used in films, as it used to be earlier. Slowly, there will be more transparency related to film funding and as a result good cinema will be boosted,” Rathore said.

Rathore said that demonetisation and going cashless has a lot of advantages.

“I feel the biggest advantage is that because of the black money use, some people in India were doing things like… prices would rise, those who were earning with honesty were being left behind.”

“This gap will reduce. Terror will be impacted. Thefts, dacoities, drug, crime rates will be impacted. It will be less, as soon as cash becomes less,” he said.
