Healthy to be multi-faceted, says Amrita Puri

Actress Amrita Puri, who will next be seen in filmmaker Nikkhil Advanis TV show “P.O.W. Bandi Yuddh Ke!”, says she enjoys being a multi-faceted person as it is important and keeps her healthy.

Amrita, best known for her roles in films like “Aisha”, “Blood Money” and “Kai Po Che!”, has been juggling between acting in films and TV shows and her own clothing label.

“I have always done work only if it is something I believe in or would watch myself in. I can’t take up work for the sake of being seen. I did a play, a show with Anurag Basu and started my own clothing label,” Amrita told IANS.

“I have been busy. I think it is important and healthy to be multi-faceted. I enjoy doing several things and I love my clothing label Akuri by Puri,” said the actress, who last appeared on the small screen in Basu’s “Stories by Rabindranath Tagore”.

Amrita feels that content wise, Indian television in changing.

“I think the change has begun to happen. Indian television still hasn’t changed (completely). If you see the shows that are doing well currently, that confirms what I am saying,” Amrita said.

“However, if a show of this scale (like ‘P.O.W. Bandi Yuddh Ke!’) does well, I believe it could be the game changer for Indian television. As far as I know, never before has a daily soap of this nature and production value been attempted,” she added.

“P.O.W. Bandi Yuddh Ke!”, which will be aired on Star Plus starting from November 7, is an Indian adaptation of Israeli TV drama “Hatufim”. It reveals the story of two missing-in-action soldiers who return home after 17 years.

“The story of this show is not something we have seen on Indian television. To be a part of something that is path breaking in terms of content is exciting. I signed on the show after reading the first episode,” Amrita said.

“Nikkhil had been in talks with me about doing a TV show over the past two years. He always maintained that he wanted to do something exciting and gripping for TV. When he spoke to me about this show, I was intrigued. This show is going to be a game changer for Indian TV,” she added.

Talking about her role in “P.O.W. Bandi Yuddh Ke!”, Amrita said: “I am playing the role of Harleen, who is wife of Naib Subedar Sartaj Singh, and is waiting since 17 years for her husband who is missing in action after the Kargil War.”

“Harleen never got to know her husband as he had to report on duty on their wedding night. It is the most challenging role I have played so far. I don’t think the medium is important. I have always maintained that content is of utmost importance”.

“P.O.W. Bandi Yuddh Ke!” will also feature Purab Kohli, Sandhya Mridul and Rasika Dugal.
