Sony launches music training room in Gurugram prison

As per the CSR commitment of “Ek India Happywala”, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) on Saturday launched its first music training room at the Bhondsi jail in Gurugram, in association with India Vision Foundation.

SPN’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, through its ‘The Dhun Project’, focusses on creating a positive impact on the social ecosystem and is built around three pillars — empowerment, education and environment, a press statement said.

“On the 5th anniversary of Sony MIX in 2016, Sony launched ‘The Dhun Project’ for empowerment through music. Now, project aims to use the powerful medium of music for the rehabilitation of prison inmates, thus preparing them for a successful reintegration into society post their prison term,” the Sony statement added.

Under project, SPN will also be setting up training centres in four more prisons across the nation — Rothak and Sonipat prisons in Haryana, and Dasna and Kasna prisons in Uttar Pradesh.

“At Sony Pictures Networks India, we aim to contribute to India’s social development agenda by focusing on education, environment and empowerment to create, ‘Ek India Happywala’. The Dhun Project is about empowerment through music and aims to give back to society through our partnership with India Vision Foundation,” said Smriti K. Singh, CHRO, Sony Pictures Networks India, in the statement.

The network, along with India Vision Foundation, has appointed special trainers (vocal and instrumental) who will visit the music centre on a regular basis to train the prison inmates.

Neeraj Vyas, company’s Senior EVP and Business Head — Sony SAB, MAX and Music clusters, said: “The Dhun Project is an empowering initiative to reshape the lives of prison inmates and give them a new ray of hope through music.”
