Actor Joe Alwyn, who will be making his debut with Ang Lee’s “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk”, says the star cast of the war drama was put through boot camp to get the role of being a soldier right.

“Seven of us did two weeks of boot camp in Atlanta. And that was a condensed version of what you would actually go through for boot camp,” Alwyn – who will essay role of Billy Lynn, said in a statement.

He added: “So we had no contact to the outside world, we all lived together in this tiny little motel in Georgia and every day went through this training which was incredibly intense and tough and pushed us to breaking point. But also bought us together as a group of boys, made us come together as a unit.”

Directed by Ang Lee, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” is based on a novel by Ben Fountain.

The drama is set in Iraq and the US, and is told from the perspective of a 19-year-old private Billy Lynn (played by Alwyn), who gets famous after a video capturing his rescue of a comrade in Iraq went viral.

The film shines the light on the celebrations to honour the war heroes, and what really happened in the field.

The Sony Pictures Entertainment film will release in India November 11.
