New Delhi, June 29 (IANS) Hema, a Bhojpuri film actress, and her Nigerian accomplice have been arrested in the national capital on charges of drug trafficking and three kg of heroin valued at Rs.30 million in the global market has been recovered from them, police said Sunday. Sleuths of Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Hema and Pius Onwaso Okolonta from Delhi Metro’s Nawada station in west Delhi Saturday with 3.052 kg of fine quality heroin.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said they had information that a woman had gone to Jammu and Kashmir to collect a drug consignment and would hand it over to a Nigerian national in Delhi.
“We laid a trap accordingly and arrested Hema when she was handing over the consignment of drugs to Pius Onwaso Okolonta. Their interrogation revealed that one Zorawar, based in Lahore, had sent the drugs and one Rummy had collected it in Jammu,†Kumar said.
“Hema said she has acted in the Bhojpuri film ‘Don’ and performed item songs in two films. She has also done some modelling in various television commercials,†Kumar said. Police said Hema, a resident of Uttam Nagar, met Okolonta, who came to India on tourist visa in 2006 and was staying illegally after his visa expired in December 2006, through a common friend in a bar.
Okolonta lured Hema into drug trafficking business and promised her good money for acting as a conduit, police said. The Nigerian was involved in drug trafficking since 2006 and Hema joined him three months ago, police said. “Hema said it was the first time she had got involved in the drug business. But we are verifying her credentials,†Kumar added.
