Actor producer and director Narayana Murthy slammed the government for its decision to allow theatres to hike the price of movie tickets from Rs. 35 to Rs. 50. He said that the move will hurt several small producers in the state.
Narayan Murthy said that the upper-class seats have swallowed the lower class seats and many theaters now have hardly 15 percent seats for the lower class. He said that some big producers have formed into a group and are dictating terms to film makers.
The theater rentals have gone up by over one 100 percent on this account and this is proving to be a death knell for small producers. Narayana Murthy appealed to the chief minister to withdraw the hike
immediately.
