On Wednesday, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and Kirti Kulhari promoted their upcoming political drama ‘Indu Sarkar’ at twitter office in Mumbai. Indu Sarkar is based during the times of emergency in India and characters in the films are inspired from India ex prime minister Indira Gandhi and his son Sanjay Gandhi and because of that film is at receiving end from many political people but while speaking to media Madhur Bhandarkar cleared his stand saying A filmmakers should have equal freedom just as a writer or documentary filmmaker.
Talking about the whole controversy around the film, Madhur said, “There are objections being raised on the film but people haven’t watched the film yet. I don’t understand that people have written books on emergency, many articles have been written on it and many documentaries also made on this subject no one objected that so why there is an objection on making a film? People are saying me that they will take legal recourse as many political people have reservations about the film so I feel that filmmaker should be given equal freedom just a writer or documentary filmmaker. I will send my film my censor board and then see what they communicates with me because censor board will give me clear idea about what changes I have to do in the film in terms of dialogues or names of the characters”
Talking about his film’s promotion, he said, “Today we have came here in twitter office because twitter is most active medium for film industry and in political circles as well. We have launched a qawwali ‘Chadta Sooraj Dheere Dheere’ here as Today there is trend of recreating 70s songs so we had option because our music partener SaReGaMa have music rights of many songs and I noticed that from by years no one has used qawwali in their film so me and Anu Malik decided to recreate this qawwali in our film as this qawwali is relatable to every human being irrespective of any field.”
Kirti added, “It truly reflects the philosophy of the film and the times that are shown in the film. It’s the philosophy which can apply to everything and anything so it’s a very aptly chosen for our film.”
Indu Sarkar stars Kirti Kulhari, Anupam Kher, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Tota Roy Chowdhury in lead roles.
It is releasing on 28 July, 2017
