Makers of ‘Raazi’ hosted special screening of their film on Sunday in Mumbai. Bollywood celebrities Meghna Gulzar, Soni Razdan, Amruta Khanvilkar, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Shweta Bachchan-Nanda attended special screening of the film.
Earlier in an interview, talking about ‘Raazi’ which is based on India spy woman who gets married to Pakistani Army officer, director Meghna Gulzar said, Talking about the film, Meghna said, “I met people in the defense think tank and RAW agents and got to know that yes, this file existed on this lady then I went ahead and made the film. Otherwise, there was no such case in existence I wouldn’t have gone ahead.”
“As a 20-year-old you can’t fathom doing something like this. Because it’s not only about patriotism, there’s righteousness in the character, there’s a devotion to the character to her father and mother. There’s an emotional honesty to her wedded family in spite of having her agenda. They’re very high principles to live by. Almost to the point of making it unreal.”
Sharing her experience working with her father and industry veteran Gulzar in ‘Raazi’, Meghna said, “He has supervised dialogues, script of the film and penned down lyrics of the film. I think his inputs in films are like painter’s last stroke of the painting which changes emotion of that painting altogether. He is like that.”
“We first write script and do preps for the film and then it’s time to write songs and as he comes in picture to write lyrics for the film, the whole film get elevated a few notches higher. He has seen in the film and he really liked it. He has told me that it has become your habit to mute the audience after making film like ‘Talvar’ and now again, you will do that with ‘Raazi’”.
‘Raazi’ is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s Calling Sehmat, a novel inspired by the almost-unbelievable real-life story of the woman who Sikka named Sehmat, to protect her identity.
Alia has been is playing Sehmat, a Kashmiri woman who marries a Pakistani officer with the intention to source out intelligence details and pass it off to Indian forces. Vicky Kaushal is essaying the role of the Pakistani officer.
‘Raazi’ is being directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Karan Johar and Vineet Jain.
It is scheduled to release on 11 May, 2018.
