Actor Azmat Khwaja who has featured in films like ‘Oxygen’, ‘Pending Love’ ‘Side A Side B’, says that he always tried to feature in realistic films which are based on social issues.

Azmat Khwaja was interacting with the media on Wednesday in Mumbai.

Azmat said he always tried to do realistic films which are based on social issues, he said, “I have done a film titled ‘Oxygen’ which is based on environmental issues and I after that, I did a film ‘Football’ which was story of a footballer. I try to do realistic films which are based on social issues. I have got a lot of encouragement from Shoib Nikash Shah and from audience.”

Talking about his film career, Azmat said, “I started my film career in 2016 with a film called ‘Side A Side B’ with Rahat Kazmi sir and from that film, I started feeling that I can do something in acting. After that, I did another film called ‘Pending Love’ in 2017. I played parallel lead in that film. It was based on bisexuality so; it faced a lot of difficulties to get a release.”

Adding further Khwaja said, “I also did one film called ‘My Angel My Teacher’ which was directed by Shoib Nikash Shah and it was based on education system of our country. It was about inability of school teachers to give quality education to the students in schools. In that film, I played role of a driver who despite being educated does driving  to support his family. ‘My Angel My Teacher’ is acquired by Shemaroo because they liked it a lot and now, it will release on Shemaroo’s digital platform.”

Talking about his background, Azmat said, “I belong to Poonch district, Tehsil Mandi,  from Jammu & Kashmir. I always wanted to do something in creative field since my childhood so, I started doing acting. I am the first one from Poonch district to begin a career in acting. It is really difficult to get into film industry coming from that place because no one thinks of acting as an independent career.”

Talking about how emergence of digital platforms has helped actors and filmmakers in the industry, Azmat said, “Now, it has become easy for actors and filmmaker to show their talent through digital platforms like Netflix and Hotstar and that’s the reason, it has become easy to get more work in the industry which wasn’t the case earlier.”

Talking about his upcoming project, Azmat said, “I am doing a film called ‘Antena’ which we will shoot in Ladakh. ‘My Angel My Teacher’s producer Sakshi Seth is producing the film. It is directed by Shoib Nikash Shah.”
