Cash: Utter Trash

Published on

Esha Deol in CASHPardon me if you think the titled is quite rude and hurtful. I am not a brash person by nature and it is uncharacteristic for me to trash a film so ruthlessly. But believe me, you will be thanking me for writing this because if you ever find a poor soul who actually did not read this review, or any other for that matter, the facts will be confirmed. It has been a long time since I have seen such a mindless movie – it is completely appalling.

So let’s try and get it right when I try to narrate the story or what I think was the story. It is the story of a legend that holds that a bunch of precious diamonds are passed around down the years across the seas. Five lucky Indians (yes sir, all of them Indians) come to know about this well guarded secret and want in on it. They plan a top secret operation to get their hands on this booty and the plan is so mind blowing mahia (could not resist adding the title of that song!), that the secret service of top police officials is completely dazed and wide eyed.

The opening sequence, which I guess is supposed to be a “mind blowing” one, shows Ajay Devgan in an interrogation room and a top Indian official in Cape Town – Shamita Shetty. With the sparks flying between them, Shamita says “I love you more than possible” to this, Devgan replies in style that anything less would not do. What a line! Completely floored with the attitude, Shamita’s only reply is “mind blowing”. Now you see why the word has been used so many times in this review…

The film consists of no script or story line what so ever. It is just random bits of implausible action sequences cut and joined together in such a fashion that they actually look like a montage with no connection whatsoever. All you get to see is a bunch of guys nattily dressed up with guns shooting left right and centre. To represent the female talent, we have scantily clad bond girl wannabes who don’t do much more than posing around while making “hot” expressions on their otherwise dumb faces. The stunts, since we are certain that it is supposed to be an action movie, include the works-helicopter hangings, crazy car chases, gravity defying boats and bikes, professional sledging et all. As if that is not enough, Anubhav Sinha thought that it would be a good idea to steal something from the Kill Bill introduction style. So he did just that, only with a lot less class.

Please do not make me talk about the cast because there is no talent that I can mention and the criticism, god, if I try writing that, I think my head will explode. Just trust me when I say that there is no acting what so ever displayed by any of the actors. The sad part is that someone as gifted as Ajay Devgan deigned to be part of something so tacky.

So, my verdict is that if you like your cash, you will stay away. Far, far away from any theatre that is running this excuse for a flick.
